We continue for quite a bit more time than normal, so by the time I remove my hand, even Alisha looks satisfied.

With that, the day comes to an end, and we each head to our respective beds and turn in, our minds already focused on tomorrow’s events.

Chapter 15: Hot Spring Vacation

----- Lutz -----

“Somewhere around here, Miss Navigator,” I say as I point to the map in Laya’s hands. “Just a tad south of the town, then a short walk through the eastern plains.”

“Mmm. Let’s go.”

As always, we leave the pathfinding to Laya who seems to have quite a knack for it. As someone who grew up on a planet with advanced technology, stuff like trekking through the woods isn’t really my specialty.

However, despite my limited experience, I seem to have a much easier time staying on course than I would have imagined.

The Intelligence stat is quite mysterious, isn’t it?

I don’t feel any smarter or wiser, but things like estimating the passage of time and maintaining a direction in a forest seem so much easier than they should.

I’ve definitely noticed that my memory has improved, as well. I wasn’t exactly forgetful on Earth, but things that didn’t interest me rarely ended up in my long-term memory, forcing me to make a conscious effort so that I didn’t forget them if I thought they would be necessary.

But now, I can recall nearly anyone’s name without a problem, even if I only met them briefly. On top of that, small details that I simply glanced over when they were in front of me seem to be stored vividly in my memory.

After walking a short distance on the highway that leads south from Resta, we step off the road and onto the rocky ground that makes up the majority of the landscape. It’s easy to traverse thanks to the limited number of obstacles, making the trip quite pleasant.

The cool morning air nips at my exposed skin as the gentle wind kicks up small dust clouds, forming several tiny tornados that glide across the landscape.

Within the flat plains is a small outcropping of rock, and at its base is a large pool of clear, blue water. Steam rises from that pool, and there’s a gentle current flowing from the stone, creating a slow circulation as the water searches for an escape from the hole in which it’s trapped.

On one end of the hot spring, water overflows, trickling down into a second, smaller pool before gathering into a creek and running off into the distance.

“Amazing,” Belle says as we step up to the edge of the pool.

“Yeah. I heard some hot springs can smell pretty bad but guess that’s not the case for this one.”

Laya’s eyes take in the landscape surrounding us. “No cover.”

I match her gaze, peering at the mostly flat, open ground. The sea of rocky ground is broken up by patches of scraggly grass, with occasional rolling hills and rocky protrusions, similar to the one next to this hot spring.
